The sixth installment of the ‘Of Scales and Fur ‘ saga, the story follows Jackknife, an aqua-drake bred to be a healer, who dreams of being a warrior, and must learn to balance both the ability to heal and hurt in a desperate struggle to keep his fellow dragons from being destroyed by scared humans.
Synopsis
What use is a fighter when peace is what’s needed?
All his life, Jackknife was told he was wrong. He was wrong to want to be a fighter when he was an aqua-drake, bred for healing. He was wrong to befriend Diamondback. He was wrong to mourn her when her ambitious bid to rule humanity ended with her death. And he was wrong to ally with the blood dragon Kira in his own bid to prove dragons didn’t need humans constantly managing them in order to be heroes.
However, as Kira and Jack begin a two-dragon war on crime and chaos, the fear of dragons takes root in the King of Humanity, and he formulates a scheme that will reveal foes where Jack thought allies dwelled, threaten many Jack cares about, and force Jack into a situation where fighting and violence (the two things Jack prides himself on) will only make things worse.
Can Jack learn to balance his ability to heal and hurt in order to find a way to waylay the fear that has infected Connors’ heart? Or will he end up leading his fellow dragons into either a life of slavery – or the genocide of their short-lived species?
We shall find out in the next intense chapter of the ‘Of Scales and Fur’ saga.

Trivia
- Jack’s story was one of the most difficult to formulate, and underwent the most changes. Initially, Jack’s story was inspired by Venom, and would’ve involved him learning to partner with humans.
- There is an overarching theme of anger corrupting; Bai Long will resent Jack for abandoning him in his time of need, Jack himself resents Drake and the Riders for constantly ostracizing him and getting Diamondback killed, and even Celine and Logan resent each other due to misunderstandings over Kodo. It will be in how each character handles their resentment and bitterness that allows them to either thrive or fall short of their goals.
