The fourth installment of the ‘Of Scales and Fur’ saga, the story focuses on Star Wing, the hybrid offspring of an experiment that fused Rocket and Myst together. Though created from less than natural or savory means, Wing hopes to prove she’s more than her origin or appearances might imply, and through her journey, discovers the meaning of self-sacrifice, teamwork, and true heroism.
Synopsis
Found on the side of the road by theater director Smith, Wing’s early life was one of secrets and fear. The people of her village, Wolf’s Bane, despised and distrusted anything non-human. And Wing had the unfortunate fate of being a cross between the two most hated non-human species on the Roads of Gaia – part demi-wolf and part dragon.
Though her adopted father kept her safe as long as he could, Wing yearned to be accepted by her community, and to that end, tried to work as a hero and a vigilante, helping those in need in secret by night.
Initially enjoying a more casual struggle against thieves and burglers like Kyle Hardy, Wing’s nightly escapades would soon lead her to an encounter with a foe far beyond her usual gallery of rogues. One who knew exactly how she was created, and was intent on reversing the change.
With her home, family and even her own identity at stake, Wing must leave all that she knew behind in the hopes of gathering allies to fight this new foe. In doing so, she will have to come face to face with her origins, look for good where she used to only see bad, and learn that helping others and being accepted don’t always go hand in hand.

- This story was inspired by the video game ‘Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning‘, which involved a young dragon going on a quest to save the land from a villain corrupted by outside forces, doing so by finding dragons that wield different elements.
- This story was also the longest in development, having been thought up before ‘Of Scales and Fur – Shiva‘, and slowly being worked on in the background, with the events of the first three books all leading up to this project.
