An aqua-drake (water dragon) and supporting antagonist who serves as a Shadow Archetype to Jackknife and will further his development in future stories.
Appearance
Kira is an aqua-drake – or water dragon – with a striking resemblence to mermaids or snake-women (also known as naga), having the tail of a shark, the upper torso and chest of a human woman and the head of a viper.
While she can appear at seven feet tall, her ability to manipulae any liquid allows her to make herself look bigger or more sinister through the use of a liquid armor.
She is known for her piercing yellow eyes and her ‘needle-tooth grin’, featuring a maw that is filled with extra sharp teeth.
Additionally, she has a very psychotic light to her eyes, and will sometimes distort or bend her body in odd ways meant to unnerve those she’s talking to.
Backstory
Similar to her counterpart Jackknife, Kira was never able to accept her lot in life. Being bred as an aqua-drake meant that she was supposed to become a medic, healing and caring for those who had been injured by the battles wrought by her fiery ignis-drake cousins.
Curious why fire was considered a bigger threat than water, Kira tried to explore the use of her powers, and discovered that due to it’s liquid nature, the blood in others bodies could be controlled just as easily as water.
Her findings terrified her creators, General Drake among them, and he sought to have her stop such research. His fear gave Kira a sense of superiority, and she fought back against him, managing to kill several of his fellow Riders before the General was able to subdue her.
Shaken by the carnage she had wrought with her blood-bending, Drake wanted to put her down, but his lingering affection for all things dragon stayed his hand, and he ultimately imprisoned Kira deep underground.
Had Drake had things his way, Kira would’ve been left under there; something disgusting and embarassing to be forgotten about.
But when another aqua-drake, Jackknife, began asking the same questions Kira did, Drake reluctantly used Kira’s tale as an excuse for why aqua-drakes could never be soldiers.
Her status as a scapegoat led to Jackknife developing a grudge against her, as it was because of her that Jack was always treated with caution and suspicion, never being allowed to become the warrior he wants to be.
Because if he starts to go down the path of Kira… even Connors fears what Jack could become.
Abilities
- Control over water – as an aqua-drake, he has full control over almost any type of liquid. While it’s easier for him to control water, he is also capable of controlling drinks, blood, poisons, venoms and pretty much anything that’s in its liquid state. Her favorite element to control is blood, which she can use to force others to obey her whims or, if she’s in a particularly foul mood, forcing said blood out of their bodies, almost like a vampire.
- Knife nut – As part of her training under General Drake, she became fascinated with knives, and is scarily good at nicking arteries and veins to ensure the maximum amount of bleed damage on anyone she hits.
- Healing abilities – due to her water form hiding her smaller true form, she can make it seem like she can heal from any injury. This is also true for her natural form, as it is also a quick healer, though she needs to focus her energy on healing herself, which can then allow others to quickly subdue her, as she won’t have the focus to keep up her larger form while self-healing. Similarly, she can use this ability to heal others.
Personality
Bitter over Drake’s control of her, Kira has adopted the mantle that if she is going to be considered evil, she’ll embrace the title with open arms. As a result, she’s nefarious, cruel, psychotic and a massive troll who enjoys getting under people’s skin, and not just with her ability to control blood.
She believes (somewhat correctly) that dragons are vastly stronger than humans, and thus questions why they should obey them, respecting those that try to step outside human limits and test what they’re capable of when independent.
And due to being used to people hating her, she’s developed a mentality of acting crazy to get others to leave her alone, adopting a sado-masochist persona where she’ll enjoy getting hurt just as much as she seems to enjoy hurting others.
Yet, underneath the crazy front, is an ultimately lonely dragoness. One who wishes for someone that would be willing to listen to her thoughts on dragon strength, and maybe even be willing to help her discover just what else dragons are capable of.
Stories Involving Her
- Of Scales and Fur – Phoenix (Her debut, though…)
- Of Scales and Fur – Celine (It is mentioned that she escaped her imprisonment sometime during the events of this book)
- Of Scales and Fur – Jackknife (Will serve as Jack’s primary ally, though not one to be trusted)
- Also makes further appearances in The Storyboards Forum
Trivia
- Kira is inspired by Bloody Mary from Telltale Games and Fables Comics, ‘The Wolf Among Us’.
- As Kodo is also based on Bigby Wolf from the same video game, a fight between the two in OSAF – Phoenix draws some parallels to Bigby and Mary’s fight in Episode 5: Cry Wolf. Including the use of a theory that Bigby didn’t fight the real Mary, but a clone of her.
- As Jackknife’s Shadow Archetype, humans such as Drake and Connors fear that Jack will become just like Kira. For her part, Kira is fascinated by Jack, and sees him as the only dragon that could truly understand her.
- While Kira’s favorite element to control is blood, she’s also still capable of using normal water. However, this does cause her scales to go from red to a more neutral maroon and can even turn them blue if she uses water for too long.
- Given that aqua-drakes did have some partial inspiration from vampires, Kira claims to get a power high from consuming blood, which is part of why she prefers using blood over regular water.
